Mental Maths Olympiad

We recently held the 6th Annual International Abacus, Vedic and Mental Maths Olympiad. Congratulations to Seb Ireland (Year 9 Woollacott) and Gerard McGinley (Year 7 Heaslip) who came 4th in the country for their year level.

Maths Manga High

Our most active mathematicians on Manga High for May 2021 are:

da Vinci Decathlon

This year we took 2 teams to the da Vinci Decathlon competition that took place at St. Peter’s Girls School. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics and chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy. Both teams competed brilliantly, with our Year 9 team securing 2nd place in their competition. Well done to the 16 students that competed across the two days.

SA State Championship Rubik’s Cube Competition

At the recent SA State Championship Rubik’s Cube Competition Gerard McGinley competed in 12 different events. Gerard ended up with his first podium ever in a cubing competition, taking out 1st place in the 2x2 cube competition, with an average of 4.10 seconds.

School Surf

We recently had the School Surf Competition on Monday 31 May. The Open Girls' team of Stella Senior (Year 11 Clark) and Kiera Hunt (Year 7 Kelly) finished in 2nd place. Ella Green (Year 8 Heaslip) won 2nd place in the Junior Girls competition.

In the U16 Boys Jack Bright (Year 10 Fereday) and Toby Sutton (Year 8 Carter) made it to the semi-finals. Well done to you all.

SAPSASA Netball

Last week we had four Year 7 girls represent the South West district in the SAPSASA metropolitan netball championships. Our girls came 4th overall in the strong Division 1 competition. Well done to Maggie Taplin (Jeffries), Amelia Sposato (Heaslip), Anna Goad (Carter) and Adelle Parkinson-Need (Fereday).
