Academic Excellence Scholarships

An Academic Excellence scholarship offer is based on a student’s performance in the examination conducted by ACER on behalf of the School. As a guide, an applicant should be performing at a base level of an A or A+ in Maths and English to be considered competitive amongst other high performing candidates. The test aims to assess complex intellectual abilities, problem solving and logical understanding.

The ACER examination at Westminster School will be held on Saturday 3 February 2024 – further details will be provided to applicants closer to this date.

Westminster School offers two prestigious Academic Excellence scholarships:

Brad Selway Scholarship

The Brad Selway Memorial Scholarship is the top academic scholarship. It is a full remission scholarship, awarded to a student entering Year 7 at Westminster School, based on performance in the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) Australian Cooperative Entry Program (ACEP) examination. This examination is open to existing Westminster School students and to other students who wish to attend Westminster School.

This scholarship is named in honour of the late Hon. Brad (Bradley) Selway, an Old Scholar from the Class of 1971, who entered Westminster in 1967 as a Year 8 student on an academic scholarship. Brad had a distinguished career in Law and was an active member of the School community, serving on both the School Council and Westminster School Foundation Board.

Assessment: Online submission, academic test and interview for shortlisted candidates.
Benefit: 100% remission of tuition fees per annum from Year 7 until the end of Year 12.

Bradley Fenner Scholarship

The Bradley Fenner Scholarship is the second-to-top Academic Excellence scholarship. It is a half remission scholarship, awarded to a student who will be entering Year 7 at Westminster School, based on performance in the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) Australian Cooperative Entry Program (ACEP) examination. This examination is open to existing Westminster School students and to other students who wish to attend Westminster School.

This scholarship is named in honour of Bradley Fenner who was Principal of Westminster School from 1998 to 2009.

Assessment: Online submission, academic test and interview for shortlisted candidates.
Benefit:
50% remission of tuition fees per annum from Year 7 until the end of Year 12.

Each year, a small number of Principal’s Academic Scholarships may also be awarded, determined by the calibre of the candidates in any given year.
