Vale Vili Milisits OAM

We were saddened to learn that long-time supporter of Westminster School, Vili Milisits OAM, passed away on Friday 26 March 2021. The tributes for local legend Vili have been widely shared online and by mainstream media. Patrons of the Westminster School Foundation, Vili and his wife Rosemary Milisits OAM have generously supported Westminster in many ways, including the Fun Fair and Old Scholars, one special highlight being that for many years they proudly hosted our Golden Keys’ events in their home. Our thoughts are with Rosemary, a former President of the Foundation, their son Simon and daughter Alison, as well as grandsons Josh (‘10) and Luke (’13). This is the last photo we took of Vili at Westminster; taken in 2019 with Principal Simon Shepherd, Josh (left) and Luke (right), it was to celebrate Rosemary’s retirement from the Foundation with a tree planting outside of Highmoor.

Vale Peter Edwards (’65)

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Foundation Old Scholar Peter Edwards (’65) on Sunday 21 March 2021. Coincidentally, Peter passed on the day we held WestFest to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the School’s opening in 1961 when Peter joined Westminster School as a student in Year 8 (equivalent). Our thoughts are with Peter’s family.

Reunions

The next reunion planned is the Classes of 1995/1996 25 Year Reunion on Friday 21 May in the new Thomas Pavilion at Westminster. Over the holidays, WOSA will be in contact with you (and other year groups) to discuss the format of the evening.

WOS Netball Club

The Westminster Old Scholars’ Netball Club will make a reappearance in the AMND Winter Season. Two senior teams have been registered – one in C1 and the other in C2, plus another team in the Sub Juniors (Grade 3) for players born in 2008 or 2009. This would suit Year 7 players in the 7A team but not 7B team due to a Saturday match time clash (School netball takes priority). It may suit some Year 6 players too with their competition being on a Friday night. Training details will be released shortly. If you are interested in finding out more about playing for WOSNC, as a secondary competition to School netball, please contact Peter Trenorden (’77), WOSAEO, E: ptrenorden@westminster.sa.edu.au or T: 08 8276 0234.

WOS Football Club

Saturday 17 April marks the first round of homes games for WOSFC at Glandore and, just as importantly, it is the annual Ladies’ Day celebration at the Club. Those of you who have attended this event before will know what a great day it is. To find out more information or to book, please visit: https://www.trybooking.com/BPPEC. We look forward to seeing you at Glandore on this day or at any other round of home games – join us for a match, the famous WOSFC sausage sizzle and a drink on the deck!

Winemakers of Westminster

At WestFest, we had the privilege of being able to offer some top range wines for tasting made by members of our School community. Labels such as Gemtree, Battle of Bosworth, Chapel Hill, Snowdragon, Lost Buoy, Main and Cherry, and Top Range. They were popular and rightly so! So much so, we’re are look at creating a Winemakers of Westminster Mixed Dozen. It is a collection that will be unique to Westminster. If you are interested in registering your interest when details are worked out, please contact WOSAEO Peter Trenorden (’77), E: ptrenorden@westminster.sa.edu.au or T: 08 8276 0234. Of course, if you are one of our Westminster Winemakers not featured at WestFest, and would like to be involved, please don’t hesitate to let Peter know.
