Exciting times ahead for our netball program with our information evening for the upcoming 2020 Netball tour held on Monday 18 November. The inaugural netball tour was in held in 1998 and there have been tours every three years since 2002. This will be the eighth tour and the Westminster High Performance Program is pleased to announce it will be our first netball tour of New Zealand!
We are expecting excellent quality opposition from our friendly neighbours and very excited to be able to offer our students this opportunity. Whilst the primary purpose of any sporting tour is to gain valuable experience competing in our sport of choice, there will be many cultural and educational aspects be included as important components and life experiences not to mention outstanding sight-seeing and adventurous leisure activities.
The tour will be travelling from Adelaide to Auckland located on the North Island and crossing to the South Island via ferry. Transport and accommodation is being sourced by a professional travel agency. The tour will run across 15 days and will see our teams play seven matches against local clubs and school teams of good quality but age appropriate competition.
Players in Year 10, 11 and 12 in 2020 are eligible to apply. Expressions of interest (If you have not done so already) are to be submitted to the Head of Senior School Sport, Mike Martens.
Trials for the tour may be required due to number restrictions. Due to this, some athletes who have put in their expressions of interest may not make the final touring teams.
We will be taking an A and B team and selections will be made early in 2020.
We have quoted flights, rooms and ground transportation for a total of 18 participants. In addition three staff members will be travelling (including coaches).
If you are an enthusiastic netballer who would like to be part of representing Westminster Netball on this tour of New Zealand but missed our information evening, please contact me asap via Email for more details and to register for the trials to be held early 2020.
I am looking forward to this tour being a fantastic success and a wonderful memory for our netball players to cherish.
Yours in High Performance,
Head of Sport Development and High Performance
