Allied Dance Training

In preparation for upcoming performances, SACE Stage 2 Dance students have been learning about the role that allied training plays in supporting a dancer to develop as a performer. Conditioning the body for dance is also vital for the prevention of injury and can aid in a mindful and present state to enhance a dancer’s performance. The Stage 2 Dance students enjoyed participating in Vinyasa Yoga Workshops to develop their yoga technique, strength, flexibility and mindfulness. These sessions have supported the development of students’ individual, ongoing yoga practice for this year, to assist them in achieving their potential in their study of dance as a performance art form.

Sydney Dance Company Excursion

On Friday 12 May, Dance students form Year 8 Advanced, Year 9 Advanced and Year 10 Dance classes attended a live performance of Ascent performed by Sydney Dance Company. This double bill performance featured artistic director Raphael Bonachela’s I Am-ness and Forever and Ever, choreographed by Antony Hamilton. The contrasting works performed by the exquisite Sydney Dance Company dancers made Ascent an outstanding example of Australian contemporary dance and a highly engaging production for the students to witness.

The 'Schools Showing' of the production included viewing a set change and hearing about the choreographic process and costume design from individuals involved in creating the works. A post-show Q&A extended the educational experience with students offered the opportunity to ask questions of the creatives and dancers. They arrived back at School inspired for their own choreographic processes and performance experiences this year.
