Certificate III in Dance

We are delighted to announce the addition of VET - CUA30113 Certificate III in Dance to the Westminster Dance program in 2019. This Nationally Recognised Qualification is offered under an agreement with Australian Teachers of Dancing Limited RTO 31624, to Year 12 Westminster students who have successfully completed SACE Stage 2 Dance in Year 11.

The introduction of this blended learning pathway will enhance the curriculum and learning opportunities for students, providing further study for those interested in transitioning to Dance at a Tertiary level (e.g. Certificate IV in Dance or Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance)). It is also suitable for students interested in pursuing further study and careers in allied dance professions such as Education (e.g. Specialist Dance Teacher (Primary) or dance teaching within a studio context), Physiotherapy and Pilates/Barre Instruction.

The course is offered on site and scheduled within the Year 12 timetable. Students increase their practical understanding of both contemporary and classical technique as well as conditioning for performance. Compositional studies further develop the student’s awareness and skill in the area of dance making. Students engage in both creative process and performance experiences, developing their artistry and expression. Units of study are also undertaken to prepare students to work effectively in the dance industry.

The inaugural Certificate III in Dance cohort has commenced the year with study in conditioning for dance, classical and contemporary technique as well as training in Acrobatics. Industry professional Jo Curren has provided specialised technical advice during the completion of the Acrobatics unit of study. We wish the students well in their continued study of dance.
