Active Elders Concert

On Wednesday 29 May the Year 9 Music class accepted an invitation to perform at the Ascot Park Active Elders. The students performed a number of tunes as a class ensemble, and featured quite a few soloists as well. The concert was well received and the students performed very well.

Thanks to Chris Gould and Jenni Stam for preparing the Year 9 class, and to the soloists, Imogen Beattie (Heaslip), Sophia Harris-Sanchez (Heaslip), Jack McDonald (Forder) and Anna Symonds (Jeffries).

Brass and Big Band Workshop

On Tuesday 4 June we were lucky to have a visit from a fantastic trumpeter, Dave Newdick. Dave is playing 1st trumpet in Aladdin and has been on the musical circuit for many years, after being the resident trumpeter on 'Hey Hey It’s Saturday' for 10 years. Dave has played and performed with some of the greats in music all over the world.

He spent just over an hour with Big Band 1 and then worked with the brass students for an hour. It was a great opportunity for our brass players and Big Band, and fantastic to have Dave here at Westminster.

Sing Sing Sing

On Wednesday 19 June our annual Sing Sing Sing concert will be held in the Michael Murray Centre, starting at 6.30 pm. This is always a wonderful concert involving all choirs in the school. Sing will run for approximately one hour and will finish with a combined item that will have everybody on stage in a spectacular finale.

Everyone is warmly invited to this year’s Sing concert.

Australian Combined Schools Music Festival

On Wednesday 26 June a number of students are travelling to Sydney for the biennial Australian Combined Schools Music Festival. This is hosted by Sydney Grammar School with the final concert on Saturday 29 June in their newly built ‘John Valance’ Auditorium. Students will have the experience of working with some of Australia’s finest conductors in more than two days of intense rehearsals before taking part in the concert. We wish our students well in this unique experience.
