Vocal Jazz

Vocal Jazz is an auditioned vocal group made up of senior students.  It is considered one of Westminster’s premier vocal groups, with members participating in a range of other core ensembles. Students undertake an audition process for possible selection into this group or Vocal Jazz 2, known as West Direction.  Auditions occur in Week 1 of the school year.  

Vocal Jazz provides students with the opportunity to participate and experience singing within a small choir setting, exploring various styles of music appropriate for these particular ensembles. This group also aims to develop students’ musicianship and understanding of the part they play within a smaller group setting. 

Rehearsing every Wednesday afternoon from 3.45 - 5.15pm, students will be required to bring their music and a pencil to every rehearsal.  Students are expected to attend every rehearsal and if there is an unforeseen absence, they are required to contact the ensemble director prior to the rehearsal starting. 

Students will be required to arrive at 3.40 pm, ready for a 3.45 pm start.  Rehearsals will start in week 3 of Term 1, with this being communicated to those who have been offered a place in these ensembles.

These groups perform often, and performances include Sing Sing Sing, Music Night and Carols on the Green, to name a few.
