Academic Excellence Scholarships
At Westminster School, we believe that talent deserves to be nurtured, and a scholarship is more than financial support. It’s a recognition of promise, a pathway to excellence, and an invitation to join a vibrant learning community that inspires achievement.
We are pleased to invite applications for our Academic Scholarships for 2027 entry. These scholarships offer a reduction in tuition fees and are designed to support students who demonstrate outstanding academic ability, particularly in Mathematics and English. Applicants should be performing at an A or A+ level to be considered competitive among other high-achieving candidates.
Scholarships are available for:
Year 7 entry into Westminster Senior School – open to both current and new students.
Year 10 entry into Westminster Senior School – open to new students only.
The scholarship assessment, conducted via ACER Scholarships, is designed to evaluate advanced intellectual reasoning, problem-solving skills, and logical thinking. To sit the test at Westminster, please ensure our school is selected as your first preference during the application process.

Westminster School offers two prestigious Academic Excellence scholarships:
Brad Selway Scholarship
The Brad Selway Memorial Scholarship is the top academic scholarship. It is a full remission scholarship, awarded to a student entering Year 7 at Westminster School, based on performance in the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) Australian Cooperative Entry Program (ACEP) examination. This examination is open to existing Westminster School students and to other students who wish to attend Westminster School.
This scholarship is named in honour of the late Hon. Brad (Bradley) Selway, an Old Scholar from the Class of 1971, who entered Westminster in 1967 as a Year 8 student on an academic scholarship. Brad had a distinguished career in Law and was an active member of the School community, serving on both the School Council and Westminster School Foundation Board.
Assessment: ACER Academic Scholarship Test for Year 7 entry - open to both current and new students.
Benefit: 100% remission of tuition fees per annum from Year 7 until the end of Year 12.
Bradley Fenner Scholarship
The Bradley Fenner Scholarship is the second-to-top Academic Excellence scholarship. It is a half remission scholarship, awarded to a student who will be entering Year 7 at Westminster School, based on performance in the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) Australian Cooperative Entry Program (ACEP) examination. This examination is open to existing Westminster School students and to other students who wish to attend Westminster School.
This scholarship is named in honour of Bradley Fenner who was Principal of Westminster School from 1998 to 2009.
Assessment: ACER Academic Scholarship Test - ACER Academic Scholarship Test for Year 7 entry - open to both current and new students.
Benefit: 50% remission of tuition fees per annum from Year 7 until the end of Year 12.
Each year, a small number of Principal’s Academic Scholarships may also be awarded, determined by the calibre of the candidates in any given year.
General Excellence Scholarships
General Excellence scholarships are awarded to well-rounded students who demonstrate a high level of academic performance and achievement in one of more of the following areas: sport, performing arts, leadership and community service.
Applicants are only required to submit one application, and can simply indicate the scholarships they wish to be considered for.
Applications close on Friday, 9 January 2025.
All-Rounder (Year 6 entry)
The All-Rounder Year 6 Scholarship is available to new students entering the School in Year 6. Recipients will be able to demonstrate all-round excellence in academic and co-curricular pursuits, including sport, performing arts, service and leadership.
Application: Online submission and interview for short-listed candidates.
Benefit: up to 30% of tuition fees per annum from Year 6 until the end of Year 12.
All-Rounder (Year 7 entry)
The All-Rounder Year 7 Scholarship is available to new students entering the School in Year 7. Recipients will be able to demonstrate all-round excellence in academic and co-curricular pursuits, including sport, performing arts, service and leadership.

Benefit: 50% of tuition fees per annum from Year 7 until the end of Year 12.
Gina Murray Memorial Scholarship (Years 7 – 8 commencement)
The Gina Murray Memorial Scholarship, established by Michael Murray in honour of his late wife Gina, celebrates her unwavering support and dedication to Westminster School during his tenure as Headmaster from 1977 to 1994. This all-rounder scholarship aims to provide life-changing educational opportunities to students who would otherwise be unable to afford a Westminster education. Recipients will demonstrate strong academic performance, active co-curricular and community involvement, and a genuine commitment to contributing to the life of the School.

Benefit: Means-tested and up to 100% remission fees for eligible new students entering Years 7 or 8.
Croser Scholarship (Years 7 – 11 commencement)
The Croser Scholarship is awarded to a new student entering Years 7 to 11 who demonstrates exceptional all-round achievement. Recipients are distinguished not only by their academic excellence, but also by their commitment to co-curricular pursuits such as sport, performing arts, service, and leadership, embodying the values of a well-rounded Westminster education.
This prestigious scholarship was made possible through a generous early bequest from Lindsay Wilfred Croser, a visionary Methodist farmer and one of Westminster’s founding donors from Warooka. His legacy continues to empower future generations to strive, lead, and make a meaningful impact.

Robert Fraser Scholarship (Years 10 to 11 commencement)
Westminster School is proud to offer the Robert Fraser Scholarships to an outstanding new students entering Years 10 or Year 11. This scholarship recognises students who embody all-round excellence, not only in academics, but also through meaningful contributions to sport, performing arts, community, service, and leadership.
Named in honour of Professor Robert Fraser, a distinguished Old Scholar from the Class of 1972, this scholarship pay tribute to his remarkable journey from Westminster to global acclaim. Professor Fraser became a world-renowned Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Economics at the University of Kent, UK, and holds the distinction of being Westminster’s first Rhodes Scholar, a legacy of brilliance and impact.

Fricker Scholarship (Music, Drama or Dance)
Each year, Westminster School proudly awards the Fricker Scholarships to new or continuing students entering Year 7 who show exceptional promise in the performing arts. These scholarships are designed for students with both the passion and potential to make a meaningful contribution in one or more disciplines—Music, Drama, or Dance.
Established through a generous bequest from the Frederick Thomas Trevett Fricker Estate, the scholarship honours a legacy of artistic spirit and supports the next generation of performers as they flourish within Westminster’s vibrant creative community.

Boarding Scholarships
Boarding lies at the heart of Westminster School, it’s part of our foundation and our story. Established in the early 1960s to support families from rural and regional Australia, our Boarding program continues to honour that legacy today.
Many of our Boarding students come from country towns and farming communities, bringing with them a deep connection to the land and a strong sense of community. In celebration of this spirit, we proudly offer Boarding Scholarships, made possible by the generosity of our dedicated benefactors, to help students thrive both academically and personally.
Our modern Boarding facilities provide a safe, welcoming, and enriching environment where students can live, learn, and grow. Preference is given to applicants from rural or regional areas, and those shortlisted for interview will be asked to share evidence of their community involvement, service, achievements, and their motivation for joining Westminster.

Boomsma Scholarship (Years 7 – 10 commencement)
The Clifford Boomsma Boarding Scholarship is awarded each year to new Boarding students entering Years 7 to 10 at Westminster School. The recipients will be all-rounders who display outstanding personal qualities and ability, in both academic and co-curricular areas. The Scholarship is named in honour of Clifford Boomsma, a generous benefactor, who had a passion for the land and horticulture.

Benefit: 50% remission of the Boarding fee (excluding tuition) per annum until the end of Year 12.
Community Scholarships

Old Scholars’ Scholarship (Years 9 or 10 commencement)
Proudly supported by the Westminster Old Scholars’ Association, the Old Scholars’ Scholarship celebrates the enduring bond between past and present generations of Westminster families. Available to a new or current student entering Year 9 in 2027 and a new or current student entering Year 10 in 2027, this scholarship is reserved for the children or grandchildren of Old Scholars. Recipients will be students of exceptional character, demonstrating excellence in academics, active involvement in co-curricular pursuits, and a strong commitment to service and leadership, reflecting the values that have shaped Westminster for generations.
To ensure this opportunity reaches as many families as possible, an Old Scholar family may receive this scholarship only once.
Assessment: Online submission and interview for shortlisted candidates.
Benefit: A 25% remission in annual tuition fees is available for one student entering Year 9 and one student entering Year 10 in 2027.
Refugee Scholarship (Years 7 – 11 commencement)
The Refugee Scholarship is available to a new student commencing in Years 7 to 11 who meets the Australian Bureau of Statistics definition of a refugee, that is, a person who has been subject to persecution in their home country and in need of resettlement. The scholarship is for a student considered accordingly who demonstrates academic ability, co-curricular ability, family need and good character.
Assessment: Online submission, means testing and interview for shortlisted candidates.
Benefit: Up to 100% remission of tuition fees per annum for Years 7 to 12.

Academic Scholarships
What can my child do to prepare for the Academic Excellence (ACER) test?
The ACER Academic test assesses a student’s ability to interpret, infer, deduce, and think critically. It is not a curriculum-based test that enables students to retrieve learned knowledge. The test includes written expression tasks, mathematics and humanities. Practise tests and further information is available on the ACER website.
Where is the Academic Excellence (ACER) test held?
Students applying for an Academic Excellence scholarship and identifying Westminster as their first preference will attend the Senior School to sit the test (assuming this is practically possible). Detailed information regarding testing day will be sent via email a week before testing.
How many scholarships are offered?
This varies from year to year and is determined by the calibre of the candidates in any given year.
What conditions apply to the Academic Excellence scholarships?
Scholarship recipients are expected to maintain a high academic standard and actively participate in the School’s co-curricular program. Regular reviews of these scholarships are conducted to ensure there is a reasonable progress and contribution by the student.
When can we expect to be notified of the results?
All applicants will be notified of their results by Friday 29 March 2024.
Is there a report available for parents and caregivers?
Yes, all applicants will receive instructions from ACER on how to download their child’s report, approximately three weeks after testing.
General Excellence Scholarships
Can my child apply for more than one scholarship?
Yes, students are invited to apply for multiple scholarships.
Can my child be awarded more than one scholarship?
No, while students can apply for multiple scholarships, successful applicants can only hold one scholarship at any time.
Do we need to submit separate applications for each scholarship?
Students can nominate for more than one general excellence scholarship on the scholarship application form and attach their relevant supporting documentation.
Students will be required to submit a separate application for the ACER Academic Scholarship for Year 7 entry into the Secondary School.
Should the scholarship application be completed by the student or by the parents/caregivers?
The scholarship application must be completed by the student who should be able to articulate their interest in Westminster School and motivations for enrolment.
Can I start my scholarship application and compete the submission later?
The applicant may update and edit their scholarship submission/s any time prior to payment of the scholarship application fee.
What is the cost of application for a scholarship?
The cost to apply for an ACER Academic Excellence scholarship is $130.
The cost to apply for general excellence scholarship/s is $50 per student (this is a one-off charge covering a single application or multiple applications).
Will late applications be accepted?
No, all applications must be received by the closing date, being Friday 19 January 2024.
What are the criteria for the Fricker Performing Arts Scholarship – Music?
Candidates must be minimum AMEB Grade 3 or equivalent for strings, brass or woodwind and minimum AMEB Grade 4 or equivalent for piano. Successful candidates will be expected to choose Music as a subject from Years 7 to 12. Candidates will also be expected to take part in the co-curricular Music program at Westminster School. Students will be assessed by written submission and audition where they will be required to perform one piece on each instrument they play.
What are the criteria for the Fricker Performing Arts Scholarship – Dance?
Successful candidates will be expected to choose Dance as a subject from Years 7 to 12 and participate in the co-curricular Dance program at Westminster School. Candidates will be assessed by written submission and audition in a contemporary dance class (approximately one hour) held at Westminster in one of its Dance studios. The assessment will be in contemporary dance, incorporating classical movements. Students will be expected to respond to the direction and instruction of the Westminster Dance teachers. A prepared dance repertoire is not required for scholarship assessment.
Will we be notified of the outcome of our scholarship application?
