Westminster’s School Laptop Program supports a consistent, secure and future-focused learning environment for students from Years 4 to 12.

As technology continues to shape the way students learn, collaborate and create, the program ensures every student has access to a reliable, School-supported device that integrates seamlessly with teaching and learning across campus.

Introduced in 2025, the program provides students with a standardised Windows-based laptop, carefully selected to support academic learning, creativity, cybersecurity and digital wellbeing. By creating a consistent platform across the School, students benefit from improved collaboration, equitable access to learning tools and enhanced technical support.

To support device standardisation across campus and maintain best-practice security across the Westminster network, the School is progressively phasing out Bring Your Own Device (BYOD).

A transition period has been in place since 2024, providing families with a three-year grace period while students continue using existing BYOD laptops. This transition period will conclude at the end of 2026. From the beginning of the 2027 school year, BYOD devices will no longer be permitted to connect to the School network.

Students requiring a replacement device before this time will transition to the Westminster School Laptop Program.

This transition strengthens cybersecurity, improves consistency across classrooms and ensures students are equipped with reliable tools that support contemporary learning.

Families may join the Laptop Program at any time should a replacement device be required. The School recommends a laptop lifecycle of three to five years to ensure devices continue to support optimal performance, security and software compatibility.

This program does not affect personal devices families may choose to use at home, although personal BYOD devices will not be permitted to connect to the Westminster network from 2027.

In line with the School’s Acceptable Use of ICT Policy, software installation and device management on School-owned laptops is securely managed through Westminster systems to ensure safety, reliability and ongoing technical support.
