Royal Show Team
Lead by Andrew Malcolm ('06), Head of Agriculture

One of the jewels in the crown of Westminster’s Agricultural Program, the Royal Show Team offers students a vibrant and high profile way to engage in School life and the wider agricultural community. Open to all students, not only those studying Agriculture, the team provides an unforgettable opportunity to work closely with livestock, develop new skills and be part of a supportive group at one of South Australia’s largest events.

While showing represents only a small part of Agriculture, the Royal Adelaide Show highlights the importance of structurally sound animals, pedigree, welfare and strong links to production systems. Students learn the story behind each animal, engage in conversations with breeders, judges and industry representatives and gain insight into how careful breeding and management support the food and fibre sector.

Proudly sponsored by Thomas Foods International, our Show Team competes in partnership with TFI. The branded uniform, high standard of presentation and strong partnerships with industry and School families reflect the professionalism and ambition of the program. The team includes students of all experience levels and values curiosity, commitment and teamwork above prior livestock handling experience.

The program runs through regular training. Students attend a short lunchtime session each week along with a more structured after school training where the Show Team uniform is required for safety and consistency. Additional sessions may take place in the lead up to the Show. The team operates with a clear student leadership structure. Staff guide the overall program in consultation with the Show Team Captain while Livestock Captains lead training for specific species. Students are expected to stay connected to training information and updates through the designated online platform.

Selection to represent Westminster at the Royal Adelaide Show is based on consistent attendance, a positive attitude and a willingness to work as part of a team. Livestock Captains make decisions regarding team selection and who leads animals in the ring based on the needs of the animals and the group.

The Royal Adelaide Show is typically held in late August and the first week of September. Students involved may miss some scheduled classes during this period and families are encouraged to consider this commitment when expressing interest.
