Sailing
Sailing at Westminster has a proud history and continues to be one of the Schools longstanding flagship sports. Westminster has enjoyed sustained success at State Championships and has regularly represented South Australia at National level.
Due to the nature of the sport and the number of boats available the Sailing Squad is limited to 24 positions. As a result selection differs from most other Westminster sports. While our vision for sport is to provide opportunities for students of all ability levels from first time participants through to high performance athletes the limited Sailing squad size means that we prioritise students with existing sailing experience when positions become available. Openings generally occur when senior students graduate or when a current squad member chooses not to continue.
A distinctive and appealing feature of Sailing at Westminster is the team environment. The squad brings together students from Year 7 to Year 12. Senior students and leaders play an active role in creating an inclusive environment so that all squad members feel welcome and supported regardless of year level. As with all Westminster Co-Curricular activities students are expected to uphold the Co-curricular Code of Conduct through their effort and attitude.
For students who are new to Sailing and are interested in developing the skills and experience that may lead to future selection in the School squad we recommend connecting with the Brighton Seacliff Sailing Club which offers excellent introductory programs.
