Orchestra

Senior Orchestra is one of Westminster’s premier core ensembles. Open to students in Years 7 – 12, this is a non-auditioned group for all senior string students, as well as those students who are more advanced on brass, woodwind and percussion.

Senior Orchestra provides an opportunity for students to develop practical skills within a different setting, as well as skills of independence, self-direction and personal accountability and motivation. It is designed to experience a wide variety of repertoire in both the classical and modern genres and as such, are given the opportunity to play at our main performances throughout the year. Generally, they are featured in our finales, combined with other ensembles.

This ensemble rehearses every Monday afternoon from 3.45 - 5.15pm.  Rehearsals start in Term 1, week 3 and then every Monday during school terms until the end of Term 4. Students will be required to arrive at 3.40 pm, ready for a 3.45 pm start.  They will need to bring their instrument to every rehearsal, appropriate equipment, music and a pencil.  Students are expected to attend every rehearsal and if there is an unforeseen absence, they are required to contact the ensemble director prior to the rehearsal starting.

Performances throughout the year include ABODA, Music Night, Carols on the Green, to name a few.
