Girls' Basketball

Girls Basketball at Westminster is a welcoming and inclusive program that supports students at every stage of their development. We cater for those learning to play for the first time as well as students competing in high level competition. Training and games are structured to ensure that all players feel supported and part of a positive team environment while upholding the expectations outlined in the Co-curricular Code of Conduct.

A key strength of the program is the range of teams available. Participation teams play on Monday afternoons with a focus on enjoyment, teamwork and fitness. These teams offer a friendly entry point for students who are new to the sport or who simply wish to play with friends. Our A and B teams train and compete at a more competitive level with coaching that develops technical skill, game understanding and strong team cohesion.

Basketball also provides an excellent crossover for students who play winter ball sports. Many of the movement patterns, decision making skills and spatial awareness used in these sports translate naturally to basketball. This makes it an enjoyable and valuable way to build confidence and versatility as an athlete.

We have Senior teams which typically include students from Years 10 to 12 and Middle Years teams made up of students in Years 7 to 9.

The Co-curricular Basketball Program is complemented by the opportunity for students in Years 8 and 9 to select Basketball Academy as a curriculum elective. This provides additional skill development along with tactical and game awareness within the School timetable.

For students seeking a higher level of competition there is an opportunity to represent Westminster at the Australian Basketball Schools Cup on the Gold Coast towards the end of Term 4 - this experience allows motivated players to challenge themselves against strong opposition.
