Concert Band

Senior Concert Band is one of Westminster’s premier core ensembles open to students in Years 10 – 12.  It is a non-auditioned group for all woodwind, brass and percussion students. In some cases, to ensure balance of ensemble, younger students who are already proficient on their instrument will be invited to join this ensemble.  This will be done at the Director of Music’s discretion and if that is the case, a personal conversation will ensue.

Senior Concert Band provides an opportunity for students to develop practical skills, as well as skills of independence, self-direction and personal accountability and motivation. Students experience playing in a traditional concert band setting, exploring various styles of music appropriate for this particular ensemble.  Senior Concert Band aims to develop students’ musicianship and understanding of the part they play within a large music ensemble and as such, are given the opportunity to play at our main performances throughout the year.

This ensemble rehearses every Thursday morning from 7.20am – 8.40am. Rehearsals start in Term 1, week 2, and then every Thursday morning during school terms until mid-Term 4. Students will be required to arrive at 7.15am, ready for a 7.20am start. They are to bring their instrument to every rehearsal, appropriate equipment, music and a pencil.  Students are expected to attend every rehearsal and if there is an unforeseen absence, they are required to contact the ensemble director prior to the rehearsal starting.

Performances throughout the year include ABODA and Music Night to name a few.
