Boys Football at Westminster is one of our most popular and well supported sports with strong participation across all year levels. The School takes great pride in the performance of our teams and the pathway that continues beyond School through the Westminster Dragons Old Scholars Football Club.

The program is guided by a highly committed coaching group that focuses on strong fundamentals, team connection, consistent training habits and representing the School with pride. All students are expected to uphold the standards outlined in the Co-curricular Code of Conduct.

Westminster competes in the SAAS Football competition, with the performance of our First XVIII determining the division in which all teams across the program compete.

In 2026, Westminster competed in Division 1 across all year levels, from Year 7 through to First XVIII. Pleasingly, all teams performed strongly and demonstrated significant improvement and development throughout the season.

This represented an important step forward for our Football program and reflects the growing strength, commitment and quality of football across the School. Competing in Division 1 provides our students with the opportunity to challenge themselves against the strongest opposition each week, supporting both individual development and team performance.

Our focus is now on building on this progress through consistent player development, high-quality coaching and strong preparation. Our long-term ambition is to establish Westminster as a recognised and consistently competitive Division 1 football program across all year levels.

In Years 7 to 10 the emphasis is on learning the game, building skills and enjoyment. Teams play within age groups with a commitment to strong participation and fair game time. As students’ progress into senior football the competitive environment increases while maintaining a strong focus on playing the game in the correct spirit.
