Westminster Students Excel in 2026 NAPLAN
Westminster students are continuing to excel in literacy and numeracy, with 2026 NAPLAN results placing both Year 3 and Year 5 well above state and national averages across every assessed area.
The results also demonstrate continued growth, building on Westminster’s strong 2025 results as we continue to strive for every student to excel and achieve their potential.
The results reflect the quality of learning across the Preparatory School, with numeracy emerging as a particular standout across both year levels alongside impressive results in reading and writing.
Year 3 students performed between 11% and 16% above the national mean across every NAPLAN domain, with more than one-third achieving in the Exceeding proficiency level in both reading and numeracy. Writing was another standout, with 96.7% of students achieving Strong or Exceeding.
Year 5 students continued the strong performance, achieving well above state and national averages across all assessed areas, with 30% or more of students achieving in the Exceeding proficiency level across every domain.
Numeracy was a particular strength, with 93.6% of Year 5 students achieving Strong or Exceeding, alongside strong results in reading and grammar and punctuation. Despite disruption to the writing tests, results remained consistent with the strong achievement demonstrated across the other literacy domains.
Head of Preparatory School Simon McKenzie said the results were an encouraging reflection of the learning taking place in Westminster classrooms every day.
“While NAPLAN is only one measure of student achievement, these results provide a strong indication that our approach to learning is having a positive impact,” Mr McKenzie said.
“At Westminster, we believe in building strong academic foundations while developing the confidence to think deeply, solve problems, communicate effectively and challenge themselves.
“Our teachers know their students and use evidence to understand where each child is in their learning, where they need support and where they are ready to be extended.”
In 2027, Westminster’s new Preparatory Centre for Learning will provide even greater opportunities for students to explore, collaborate and engage in adventurous learning.

“These NAPLAN results are worth celebrating, but it is the learning behind them that matters most.
“Our new Preparatory Centre for Learning represents an exciting next step, creating even more opportunities to challenge and inspire our students and support every child to grow, achieve and develop confidence in what they are capable of.”
