Westminster Launches Acknowledgement of Country Video

22 May 2025

As part of this year’s Reconciliation Week, Westminster is proud to launch its new Acknowledgement of Country video – a respectful tribute that reaffirms our commitment to recognising the traditional custodians of the land.

Westminster sits on the lands of the Kaurna Meyunna of the Adelaide Plains. This video pays respect to the spiritual connection, beliefs and traditions of the Kaurna people and acknowledges the enduring ties that all First Nations peoples hold with the land on which our School stands.

Premiering during Reconciliation Week, the video will feature prominently on our website and be shown at major Westminster events. It serves as an invitation for Old Scholars, students and the wider community to reflect on the history, culture and lasting legacy of this land.

Westminster Principal Simon Shepherd said the video was created with care and consideration, offering a moment for shared reflection.

“We understand that the path to reconciliation can be a deeply personal and sensitive journey. This video is offered as a respectful gesture – a way for our community to listen, learn and empathise the stories of those who have walked this land before us.”

He added that it reflects Westminster’s ongoing commitment to cultural understanding.

“We hope this video helps foster a spirit of connection and learning. It stands as a symbol of our respect for the Kaurna people and for all First Nations cultures that help shape and strengthen South Australia.”
