Three State Titles Cement Westminster as South Australian Netball Powerhouse
Westminster’s netball program has capped off an exceptional season, claiming three Statewide Schools Division 1 titles across three different age groups.
This week, Westminster’s Year 11/12 Premier League team was crowned Statewide Schools Division 1 Knockout Champion, defeating Immanuel College 38–28 in the Grand Final to complete an undefeated campaign against some of South Australia’s strongest school netball teams.
The victory was particularly special for Year 12 students Anna Goad, Elouise Nordhausen, Darcy May-Martin and Adelle Need, with the Grand Final marking the end of their Westminster netball journey.
Co-Captain Anna Goad said finishing their final season as State Champions was a fitting way to conclude years of representing Westminster.
“During the last quarter, I looked at the clock and didn’t want the game to end because I realised it was the last time I would ever play netball in this sort of environment,” Anna said.
“Elouise and I have been in this team for four years and I’ve made so many friendships with students in older and younger year levels that I never would have made if it wasn’t for school netball.”
The Year 9/10 team was equally impressive. Also undefeated throughout the competition, Westminster delivered a commanding 49–28 Grand Final victory over Immanuel College to secure another Statewide Schools Championship.
Westminster’s Year 5/6 team secured the third State title last month, defeating Colonel Light Gardens in the Grand Final, while the Year 7/8 team came within one goal of progressing to the final four.
Director of Activities Stephen Schwerdt said three titles from four teams competing at the highest level of statewide school competition demonstrated both the depth of talent across Westminster and the opportunities available to students as they progress through the School.
“Our netball program is about giving every student the opportunity to enjoy the game, feel a sense of belonging and develop as a player, from their earliest years through to senior competition,” Stephen said.
“For students who want to take their netball further, Westminster offers one of South Australia’s most comprehensive school-based development pathways, with access to high-quality coaching, mentoring, strong competition and leadership opportunities.”
Three State titles across Year 5/6, Year 9/10 and Year 11/12 competition cap off a remarkable season for Westminster and underline the strength of a netball program developing talented players and a lifelong love of the game.
