Athletics Week – Term 3, Week 10

Athletics Week provided an exciting opportunity for Westminster students to showcase their athletic ability, determination and school spirit at the IGSSA Girls Athletics Carnival and the Achilles Cup Boys Athletics Carnival, both held at Athletics SA Stadium.

The girls produced a commendable performance to finish 5th, while the boys secured an impressive 4th place in Division 2. Students competed across a wide range of events, including sprints, middle-distance running, relays, jumps and throws, demonstrating versatility and commitment throughout the carnivals.

There were some notable individual contributions at the IGSSA Carnival with Billie Campbell winning the U13 Shot and Discus (with a new IGSSA record) and Chelsea Ireland with an outstanding performance winning her 100m, 200m , 400m, 800m and the Triple Jump. At the Achilles Cup, Gerard McGinley won his Shot and Discus as well as coming second in his Long Jump and Triple Jump. Alex Bradley finished second in triple jump, high jump and long jump and Oakley Schulz won both his throwing events. Other students represented Westminster in events ranging from discus and shot put to the 100m, 400m and high jump.

While team placings provided a measure of success, the most pleasing aspect was the manner in which all students represented the school. Their willingness to challenge themselves, support their teammates and compete with enthusiasm and pride reflected the values we strive to promote at Westminster.

Congratulations to all students who participated, as well as the staff who supported the teams. The effort, sportsmanship and commitment displayed throughout Athletics Week made it a memorable and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
