Westminster Students Honoured with Top Sporting Awards

23 September 2025

Westminster has claimed three of the state’s top School sporting honours at the SAAS and IGSSA awards last week.

At the IGSSA Awards, Year 12 student Jazz McKay was named 2025 IGSSA Sportsperson of the Year. As Co-captain of Westminster Netball, Jazz has led with humility and commitment while excelling at the highest levels of the sport. She represented Contax in the Premier League and captained the South Australian U/17 team to a National Championship title, where she earned both tournament MVP and Grand Final MVP honours. Her selection in the Australian U/17 Squad and Thunderbirds Futures highlights her position as one of the country’s most promising netballers.

Also at the IGSSA Awards, Year 12 student Tessa Ebert received the 2025 Ashleigh Young Contribution to IGSSA Sport Award. Tessa has represented Australia at the World Cross Country Championships and achieved national success across middle and long-distance running. Beyond her own performances, she has been instrumental in strengthening Westminster’s athletics and cross-country programs, mentoring younger runners, establishing a School squad and creating a culture of inclusion and encouragement. Her generosity, leadership and dedication will leave a lasting legacy at Westminster.

At the SAAS Awards Evening, Year 11 student Charlie Pedler was named Open A2 Basketball Player of the Year. Following an ACL injury last year, Charlie has returned stronger than ever, leading Westminster’s Open Boys Basketball team to a memorable Intercol victory over Pembroke.

Westminster Head of Activities, Stephen Schwerdt, praised the trio’s achievements and their commitment to Westminster sport.

“Jazz, Tessa and Charlie are not only outstanding athletes but also leaders who embody resilience, humility and a passion for School sport. We are immensely proud of their achievements and the example they set for their peers.”
