Adelle Parkinson-Need to Make International Debut for Australia

12 June 2025

Westminster Year 11 student Adelle Parkinson-Need will proudly represent Australia later this month at the 2025 World Triathlon Duathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, from 21 to 22 June.

A dedicated student and talented multi-sport athlete, Adelle secured her place on the national team after winning the South Australian State Duathlon Championship earlier this year. At just 16, she will be one of the youngest in her age group, competing in the Under 19 category against athletes aged 16 to 19 in a demanding format: a 5km run, 20km cycle and 2.5km run.

This marks Adelle’s international debut and a significant step towards her long-term goal of representing Australia at the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane. She is aiming for a top five or podium finish and is excited to test herself against the world’s best.

“It’s a huge honour to represent Australia and wear the green and gold. I’ve worked really hard for this opportunity and I’m excited to see how I measure up against some of the best athletes from across the globe,” Adelle said.

A gifted netballer and basketballer, Adelle recently made the decision to focus entirely on triathlon, committing to an intense training schedule of 13 to 18 hours per week.

Adelle has also been selected for the Australian Under 19 Triathlon Team to compete at the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Multisport Championships in Wollongong this October.

Adding to her impressive achievements, Adelle was recently named Under 19 State Champion, Junior Athlete of the Year and Most Improved Junior Athlete (for the second consecutive year) at the annual AusTriathlon South Australian Awards.
