Supporting Our Community This Christmas
As we approach the Festive Season, Westminster is partnering with local Uniting Churches, UnitingCare SA and ACHA Health to bring comfort and care to those in our community who are doing it tough.
Together, we are creating Christmas hampers filled with pantry essentials and festive treats for individuals and families in need.
We invite our Westminster community to contribute non-perishable food items to help make Christmas a little brighter for others.
Every donation, big or small, will make a meaningful difference.
Items that would be especially helpful include:
Christmas Treats
- Tins of tuna
- Tinned fruit
- 1 Ltr long life milk
- Packs of pasta
- Pasta sauce
- Juice or cordial
- Cup noodles
- Coffee
- Rice
- Sugar
- Jelly
Pantry Staples
- Tinned ham
- Jam or peanut butter
- Chocolates or Christmas lollies
- Small Christmas puddings or cakes
- Biscuits
Donations can be delivered to collection points around the School until Thursday 20 November 2025.
Thank you for helping to share the spirit of giving and ensuring that everyone in our community feels supported and cared for this Christmas.
Spotlight on Sport
Finding Balance: How Sport Enhances Learning
As exams draw closer, many families naturally focus on study timetables and revision schedules. Yet research continues to remind us that stepping away from the books to move, train or play sport is not a distraction from learning – it actually strengthens it.
An article by journalist Tim Wigmore, Sport helps kids do better at school, highlights compelling evidence from University College London and other international studies showing that active children perform better academically. Regular sport participation was linked to stronger results in maths, improved focus and even higher long-term employment outcomes. Physical activity increases oxygen flow to the brain, builds confidence and resilience, and improves attention and on-task behaviour – all vital skills for success both in the classroom and beyond.
From my own experience as a parent, I have seen how important it is for children to find this balance. During busy exam periods, my own children often discovered (with some encouragement) that continuing their physical activity not only helped them stay healthy and connected but also improved their concentration and mood.
As with all things, moderation is key. Carving out time for training, exercise or simply being outdoors provides balance and perspective during these demanding weeks. At Westminster, we continue to encourage all students to value sport not as something separate from learning but as an integral part of becoming their best selves.
