Westminster Teaching School Hub helping shape the next generation of educators
Westminster is helping shape the next generation of educators through its Teaching School Hub, a model grounded in mentoring, collaboration and evidence-informed practice that reflects the School’s long-standing commitment to professional growth and educational excellence.
Developed in partnership with leading universities, the Teaching School Hub provides pre-service teachers with immersive, real-world experience within a highly supportive professional environment. Working alongside experienced educators, pre-service teachers contribute meaningfully within classrooms while building confidence through structured mentoring, instructional coaching and authentic teaching opportunities.
Rather than observing from the sidelines, pre-service teachers become part of the daily rhythm of School life. They support learning, work closely with students and engage in collaborative planning and reflection with teaching teams. At every stage, they are guided by experienced mentors and supported through regular feedback and coaching.
This culture of continual growth is embedded across Westminster. The School is home to more than 20 Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers (HALTs), one of the strongest concentrations of advanced teaching expertise in the country. These educators play an active role in mentoring pre-service and early career teachers, modelling best practice and supporting continual improvement across the School.
Westminster’s Coaching@West model further strengthens this approach, creating a culture where teachers at every career stage engage in purposeful reflection, feedback and professional learning focused on improving student outcomes.
Director of Teaching, Angela Phillips, said the Teaching School Hub reflected Westminster’s commitment to both educational excellence and the future of the profession.
“Great teaching is developed through connection, reflection and continual growth,” Ms Phillips said.
“Our pre-service teachers are immersed in Westminster’s teaching standards, values and culture from the outset. They are supported to develop the habits of expert educators early in their careers through mentoring, coaching and evidence-informed practice.”
Student voice also plays an important role in Westminster’s teaching and learning model, helping educators understand the impact of their teaching through authentic feedback around engagement, clarity and learning experiences.
The Teaching School Hub has also created a strong pipeline of future educators aligned to Westminster’s values, wellbeing approach and commitment to high-impact teaching.
As education continues to evolve, Westminster remains committed to investing in the people at the centre of learning — ensuring students benefit from passionate, highly skilled and well-supported educators now and into the future.
