All In For National Reconciliation Week 2026
Westminster will mark National Reconciliation Week from Tuesday 27 May to Monday 3 June, with students and staff coming together across the School to recognise, reflect on and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and contributions.
The 2026 theme, All In, is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.
It reminds us that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that meaningful change requires each of us to step forward, listen, learn and take action. The theme also recognises that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights cannot rest solely with First Nations peoples, who have carried this responsibility for far too long. Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.
Throughout the week, a series of meaningful activities and events will create opportunities for learning, connection and community spirit across Westminster.
The week will begin on the sporting field on Saturday 23 May when Westminster’s Boys First XVIII Football team takes on PAC at home. Kaurna Elder Uncle John will lead a Smoking Ceremony at 2pm sharp, acknowledging Country and inviting all in attendance to reflect on the significance of reconciliation. The oval will also feature Aboriginal Flags painted proudly in the centre circle and both goal squares as a visible symbol of respect and recognition.
On Wednesday 27 May, the formal beginning of National Reconciliation Week, both the Preparatory and Senior Schools will gather for special assemblies in the Michael Murray Centre.
The Preparatory School assembly will begin at 10:45am followed by the Senior School assembly at 12pm. Uncle John will lead a Smoking Ceremony prior to each assembly on the Michael Murray Centre steps before welcoming students and staff inside. Both assemblies will feature a variety of musical and dramatic performances, highlighting storytelling, culture and reflection through student voice and creativity.
Following the Senior School assembly, Westminster’s Indigenous students will lead a BBQ sausage sizzle fundraiser during lunchtime. Supported by Stretch and LSA staff, students will take charge of cooking and serving food and drinks, providing an opportunity for the community to come together in support of reconciliation initiatives.
The week’s activities will conclude on Friday 29 May during the Girls First XVIII Football match against Immanuel at home. A further Smoking Ceremony will take place at 3:45pm sharp, with Aboriginal Flags once again painted on the oval in recognition of the occasion.
National Reconciliation Week is an important time for Westminster to continue strengthening understanding, respect and relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.
Through shared experiences, storytelling and cultural acknowledgement, the School community is encouraged to reflect on the role each of us plays in building a more connected and reconciled future.
