Rock Bands
Rock Bands are formed based on student interest and audition. Once names are gathered, students and instruments are auditioned. Westminster typically hosts two rock bands, with scope for additional. Allocation in each rock band is based on skill level and matching of playing styles amongst instrumentalists. Students in this group are already members of a core ensemble, however for some this may be considered their core ensemble due to the nature of the instruments.
Rock Band is open to students in Years 7 – 12 and is designed for students to experience playing specific genres of music featuring the rhythm section, vocals and sometimes horn lines. Rock Bands also enhance the skills of musicians in these types of ensembles, promote the memorization of music and combine musicianship, performance and entertainment skills.
These ensembles are open to students with at least one year's experience on their instrument. Groups rehearse Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes, with rehearsals starting in Term 1, week 3. Rehearsals continue each week until mid-Term 4.
Students will be required to arrive, ready to play at 12.45pm. It is encouraged that students bring a packed lunch to school on these days and eat this before rehearsal. They need to bring their instrument, required equipment, music, and a pencil to every rehearsal.
There are several performances throughout the year including gigs at The Jade, school lunchtime and assembly performances and the annual Art Show, to name a few.
