Jazz Ensemble

Jazz Ensemble is open to interested students in Years 9 – 12 who already participate in a core ensemble. Directed by a visiting tutor and professional in their field, this ensemble is designed for students interested in the jazz genre to develop their knowledge of jazz standards, soloing skills and small ensemble playing.  All leaders of sections in Big Bands, along with rhythm section members are encouraged to join.

This ensemble is open to students who are competent on their instrument, and rehearses every Wednesday lunchtime, from 12.45 – 1.30pm.  Rehearsals start in Term 1, week 3 and then every Wednesday during school terms until the end of Term 4. Students will be required to arrive, ready to play at 12.45pm. It is encouraged that students bring a packed lunch to school on these days and eat this before rehearsal. They need to bring their instrument, required equipment, music, and a pencil to every rehearsal.

There are several performances throughout the year including most major music events. This group is also called on to perform at marketing events, or as required throughout the year.
