Into to Improv
Intro to Improv is a course which runs in Summer (Term 1 and 4) and then again in Winter (Terms 2 and 3) and is open to all students in Years 9 - 12. Students are only allowed to elect for either the Summer or Winter program, not both.
Students will learn the foundational skills for improvisational performances, including self-confidence, teamwork, collaboration and creativity. The course includes activities, drama games, scene work and theatre sports games designed to teach improv skills. We will work towards creating both short form and medium form improvised performances.
Similar to Theatre Sports, Intro to Improv will feature numerous games, each with its own set of rules and time restrictions, requiring each team member to think of their feet to create very entertaining improvisations.
Intro to Improv runs weekly, afterschool on Thursdays 3:45 - 5pm, in Drama Studio 1 (Forder Centre - Level 2). Rehearsals commence in Term 1, week 3 and continue until mid-Term 4. Students may attend in either Summer or Winter for Intro to Improv, and if students feel they are more advanced, they can elect to choose Theatre Sports which runs at the same time.
