Westminster Weekly - Edition 46
Preparatory School
Supporting Families to Wait on Smartphones
At the beginning of the year, Westminster adopted a zero-use policy for personal mobile and digital devices, to support learning wellbeing and positive social connection during the School day.
To further support families navigating decisions around smartphones the School also introduced Wait Mate to the community, an initiative that encourages parents to hold off giving their child a smartphone.
Term 1 Prep Pick
Supporting student wellbeing is an important part of life at Westminster School and I would like to share a wonderful resource families may enjoy together at home or in the car: the Grow Your Mind Podcast.
Many families will already know the Grow Your Mind program used at School. This podcast brings those ideas to life in a fun and engaging way and is created by children for children.
Each short episode explores themes such as resilience gratitude courage empathy and emotional regulation. Through storytelling humour and student voice children learn practical strategies to understand their emotions build confidence and navigate challenges.
Listening together can also spark meaningful conversations at home and help reinforce the wellbeing language students experience in their classrooms.
You may like to explore the podcast and the broader resources available through Grow Your Mind.
