Westminster Announces 2026 School Captains
Westminster is proud to announce the appointment of its 2026 School Captains, with Anna Goad and Ian Thomson selected for the School’s most prestigious student leadership position.
School Captains are the voice of the student body, representing Westminster at the highest level. They are admired, respected and entrusted to uphold the values of the School while serving as role models for their peers.
Westminster Principal Simon Shepherd said the naming of the 2026 School Captains was a proud moment for the community.
“Anna and Ian bring different strengths and experiences, but both embody the spirit of Westminster – humility, academic excellence, leadership and the courage to contribute meaningfully to the lives of others.”
Anna emerged as a standout nominee through her exceptional achievements both in the classroom and on the sporting field. A dedicated scholar and talented athlete, she has been a key member of Westminster’s Premier League Netball team and a current member of the Australian U17 Netball squad.
“Anna has shown remarkable determination and drive,” Mr Shepherd said. “Her commitment to her studies, sport and peers makes her an outstanding role model.”
Ian Thomson, a boarder from Katherine in the Northern Territory, has been described as a quiet achiever whose influence extends well beyond words. A dedicated scholar with a passion for football, Ian has been praised for his humility and natural leadership.
“Ian is a quiet, unassuming and stoic young man who has embraced the opportunities and challenges of leadership” Mr Shepherd said. “He has the ability to connect with students from all walks of life, and his journey reminds us that leadership comes in many forms.”
Anna and Ian will take over the reins from current School Captains Eliza Maloney and James Young, who are stepping down as they approach the conclusion of Year 12.
“Both Eliza and James have shown monumental growth in their leadership over the past 12 months,” Mr Shepherd said.
“We are deeply grateful for the way they have represented Westminster, lead and guided our community and their peers throughout the year.”
