Westminster Year 6 Camp - Grampians National Park
Monday 8 to Friday 12 September 2025
We’re pleased to confirm that the Year 6 Camp will be held at Roses Gap Recreation Centre, nestled in the Grampians National Park. This outdoor learning experience provides students with a valuable opportunity to connect, grow and challenge themselves through shared adventure and discovery. This camp will be led by Year 6 teachers, supported by Deputy Head Ali Barr and multiple specialist Westminster staff members.
Outdoor Learning and Activities
Students will take part in a range of fun, safe and professionally supervised activities, designed to build confidence, resilience and teamwork. These include:
- Abseiling and rock climbing
- Canoeing and raft building
- Giant swing and crate stacking
- Low ropes, vertical playpen and bushwalking
Preparing for Camp
Every child approaches camp differently. For some, this will be their first time away from home. To help your child feel ready and excited, we recommend:
- Organising a sleepover with a trusted friend or relative
- Visiting the Roses Gap website to explore what’s on offer

These small steps can build confidence and help create a sense of ownership and anticipation ahead of camp.

Catering and Food at Camp
The camp makes every effort to cater for a wide range of dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, allergy- and intolerance-friendly, and religious-based requirements. Children with diagnosed sensory food aversions are also thoughtfully accommodated.
While every effort is made to offer nutritious, child-friendly meals, it’s important to note that individual menus based solely on preference cannot be provided. If your child eats a very limited selection of foods, now is a great opportunity to gently expand their choices in preparation.
The menu features healthy snacks such as fruit, vegetables, dairy options and baked goods. While we always encourage children to try nourishing foods, no child will ever be forced to eat something they’re uncomfortable with. Our staff have attended many camps and can reassure families that children never go hungry — there are always staples available such as sandwiches, toasties, cereal, fruit and snack bars. Of course, this isn’t ideal for every meal, which is why preparation and positive conversations at home are invaluable.
In our experience, children are often more open to trying new foods in a supportive, communal environment. After a busy day of activities, mealtimes are warmly welcomed — and we frequently see students tasting something new simply because their peers are enjoying it.
The menu will be shared with families once confirmed. It is seasonal and uses locally sourced ingredients.
With the exception of a packed lunch and snacks for day one, students are not permitted to bring food from home unless it is medically necessary and pre-approved. This includes items such as lollies and chips. The camp is fully equipped to provide all meals and snacks during our stay.
If you believe your child requires an exemption for medical reasons, please contact Deputy Head of Preparatory School, Ali Barr, me to arrange a time to meet.
Technology-Free Time
This is a screen-free camp. Students are asked to leave phones, laptops and smart devices at home. Camp is a chance to unplug, connect with one another and enjoy time in nature — all within a safe and supportive environment.
Communication During Camp
For urgent matters during camp, please contact:
- Camp Mobile: Number TBC
- Prep School Office: 08 8276 0219
- Rose's Gap: 03 5359 5264
Please note: there is very limited phone reception and staff will have limited access to internet throughout the camp so please use the direct line to Rose's Gap in emergencies.
Safety, Risk and Compliance
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff during the Year 5 camp, we have clear procedures in place should a child experience a mild illness or injury that requires them to leave camp. In such cases, we will contact you to arrange either collection from the camp or two staff members will drive your child to meet you at an agreed town within a 2.5 hour drive from the camp grounds. This limit is essential to maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios and ensure the physical wellbeing of our teachers who will need to drive a five hour round trip and continue to be on call throughout camp. Unfortunately, we are unable to facilitate returning students to Adelaide, as doing so would compromise supervision and care for the remaining group. We kindly ask families to plan accordingly and ensure availability should your child require early collection. Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us provide a safe and positive camp experience for all.
