Preparing for Camp

For some children, sleeping away from home may be a new or infrequent experience. If needed, please begin preparing your child by arranging a sleepover with a trusted friend or relative in the weeks ahead. Other helpful strategies include:

  • Looking through the camp website together to explore upcoming activities
  • Take a drive to the Normanville/Yankalilla area
  • Involving your child in packing and gear selection
  • Including a comfort item (such as a soft toy or blanket) if helpful
  • Practising helpful routines such as tidying and washing up
  • Keeping a camp journal to reflect on their time away
  • Focusing on the positives—fun, friendship and new experiences

Family reassurance will go a long way in helping them feel ready for the adventure.

We ask all families to complete the relevant eForm by 5.30 pm on Friday 15 August (Week 4):

Wilderness Escape Registration

It is essential that all students are registered by their parent or legal guardian. This information has been sent directly by Ali Barr in Week 1 and can be accessed below. If you have not already done so, please also complete the official Wilderness Escape registration via the link by Tuesday 19 August (Week 5):

These details help ensure we can provide a safe and nurturing camp experience for every child.

Technology-Free Time

This is a screen-free camp. Students are asked to leave phones, laptops and smart devices at home. Camp is a chance to unplug, connect with one another and enjoy time in nature — all within a safe and supportive environment.

Safety, Risk and Compliance

We want to reassure families that the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remain our highest priority during the upcoming Year 5 camp. In light of recent conditions involving the algae bloom, we are working closely with the camp facilitators to monitor the situation and will adjust sea and beach-based activities as needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Our team will continue to be guided by the latest government advice. Any necessary changes to the program will be communicated promptly, and alternative activities are ready to be implemented if required. We appreciate your understanding and support as we take every precaution to ensure a positive and secure camp experience for our Year 5 students.

Additional Information

  • Sample Menu – A sample menu from 2024 can be found here.
  • Drop-off and Pick-up Instructions – Specific information regarding transport arrangements will be communicated.
  • Medical Information – Please ensure all medical details are up to date in Consent2Go.
  • Camp Communications – Once students have arrived and settled, an arrival notification will be sent via SEQTA. For camps longer than two nights, a mid-camp update will also be provided. Any changes to collection arrangements will be communicated as needed.

Activity Schedule

A detailed program can be found here, and at the top of the page.

We would like to update you on the adjustments we have made to our upcoming aquatic camp in collaboration with Wilderness Escapes. As you may be aware, there have been some concerns regarding algal blooms and their potential impact on our planned activities. We want to assure you that student safety remains our top priority.

After a thorough assessment, we have decided to modify our camp program so that all possible water activities will now take place in freshwater locations. Additionally, any beach activities will be relocated to outdoor areas away from the sea to ensure the safety of all participants.

Activities that are not suited to freshwater have been replaced by a visit to the wildlife centre and bike riding. We are confident that these alterations will not only maintain a safe environment but will also contribute to an enjoyable and memorable camp experience for our students.

Medical and Safety Information

At Westminster, student wellbeing is our highest priority. Qualified staff will be present throughout the program, with first aid kits on hand at all times.

Families are required to complete the Consent2Go form, including any medical conditions or dietary requirements. This must be submitted by Friday 2 August (Week 2).

For more information, please visit our Medication and Medical Conditions page.
