Strengthening Performing Arts at Westminster
At Westminster, the Performing Arts are central to how students learn, connect and discover who they are. Through Dance, Drama and Music, students experience moments of growth and belonging that enrich the life of the School and strengthen its community.
Following a careful review of its Performing Arts programs, the School has refined its leadership structure to support a more connected and sustainable approach across all year levels.
Former Head of Music, Kellie Blacker has been appointed as Director of Performing Arts. A respected leader with extensive experience in music, ensemble direction and arts management, Kellie has played a significant role in shaping Westminster’s creative culture over the past six years and will now guide the strategic direction of Performing Arts across the School.
“It is a true privilege to lead the Performing Arts at Westminster, not as separate disciplines of Dance, Drama and Music, but as one connected journey from ELC to Year 12,” Kellie said.
“Our goal is to create connected pathways so each stage of learning builds on the last. Whenever a student discovers their passion, they find a place to belong, grow in confidence and understand the important role the Performing Arts plays in our wider society and how they can contribute to it.”
Kellie believes the arts play a vital role in shaping confident and connected young people.
“Performing Arts is collaborative by nature. In ensembles, productions and rehearsals, students learn that their contribution matters. They build friendships, resilience and confidence through supported risk-taking, whether performing on stage or creating original work,” she said.
Her vision is to further strengthen a creative culture where Dance, Drama and Music remain integral to a rich education.
“Through high-quality performances, meaningful curriculum alignment and opportunities for student voice and creativity, we nurture not only capable artists but confident, connected young people ready to embrace possibility,” Kellie said.
“At Westminster, Performing Arts helps every child discover their voice and then have the courage to use it.”
We are also delighted to welcome Cassie Pope, who will join Westminster at the beginning of Term 2 as Head of Music.
Cassie joins from Wilderness School where she has held senior leadership roles within Music, most recently as Head of Music Performance Co-curricular. With nearly 20 years’ experience as a trombone teacher, she brings a deep understanding of instrumental music, ensemble programs and whole-School music leadership.
