At Westminster, we are committed to helping students build confidence, skills, and organisation in Mathematics, while supporting their wellbeing.
Our program aligns with the school’s wider approach to reducing unnecessary screen time in 2026, ensuring students can focus, engage deeply, and learn effectively.
Our Approach
In 2026, Westminster will adopt a “tech when appropriate” approach in Mathematics. While technology will continue to support interactive learning and feedback, students will spend less time on laptops during lessons. Instead, students will engage with hands-on learning using textbooks, written exercises, and structured note-taking. This approach reflects both research on how students learn best and the school’s commitment to promoting balanced use of digital devices.
Textbooks
All students from Year 7–12 are required to bring their hard copy textbook to every Mathematics lesson, supporting our reduced screen-time approach.
Year 7–10:
Students will use Mathspace textbooks, which include a hard copy book and access to an online platform. The platform provides:
- Diagnostic testing
- Differentiated tasks
- Support videos to help catch up on missed content or consolidate understanding
Year 11–12:
Students will continue using Haese Mathematics textbooks.
Stationery Requirements
To support learning and organisation, students are expected to bring the following items to every Maths lesson:
- Maths textbook (hard copy)
- Grid exercise book
- A5 memo book (for key notes and examples)
- Calculator (with spare AAA batteries in their locker)
- Pencil, pen, eraser, ruler
- A4 zip binder
Supporting Student Success
By combining purposeful technology use, textbooks, and consistent organisational habits, our Maths program aims to:
- Improve learning outcomes
- Build student confidence
- Develop key organisational skills
- Reduce unnecessary screen time, supporting student wellbeing
