Westminster Weekly - Edition 41
Senior School
A message from the Acting Principal
As we begin to settle into Term 1 it was a pleasure to see so many of you at our Welcome Evening last night.
Stepping into the Acting Principal role while Simon Shepherd is on long service leave, I am grateful for the strong partnership we share with families. One of Westminster’s greatest strengths is its community. The School theme for 2026, is being connected and this continues to guide how we support each child as they learn and grow.
I would like to acknowledge the role families have played in supporting the School as we adapt to Westminster’s new zero-use policy for personal mobile and digital devices. The early weeks have been very encouraging with students settling into the change well. Staff have noted a calm start to the day and positive engagement across learning and social spaces.
We are grateful to families for supporting this transition including ensuring students have alternative payment options such as bank cards where needed. A reminder that urgent messages for your children can be sent directly to them via email and SEQTA or alternatively please call the Senior School Office on 8276 0251
Alongside the device policy we remind families that the School continues to hold clear expectations around social media use, responsible phone habits and healthy screen time. These expectations are in place to support student wellbeing, learning focus and positive relationships both at School and beyond. Students will continue to be supported and educated on the responsible use of devices and the internet. Years 9-12 students will attend a dedicated session on this topic on Wednesday 18 February with further sessions for all students planned throughout the year.
If you would like advice or support in navigating phone use, social media or screen time at home please contact your child’s teacher, Head of House or the Counselling team.
I look forward to continuing the positive momentum that has begun in Term 1.
