Honouring First Nations Athletes in Sport
Australian sport continues to be shaped by the skill, strength and cultural pride of First Nations athletes. From local competitions to the international stage, their contributions have left a lasting legacy in the games we cherish.
At Westminster, we recognise and celebrate the impact of our First Nations students who represent the School in a wide range of sports. Their dedication and leadership inspire not only their teams, but also their families and communities.
As part of National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on the ongoing journey of truth, respect and unity. This week, we will host a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country ahead of the Senior Football matches on Friday and Saturday afternoons. On Saturday morning, an Acknowledgement of Country will be shared before Netball begins. These acts of recognition are an important expression of our commitment to reconciliation and a reminder of the deep connection between sport, culture and community.
Sport brings people together — it fosters understanding, strengthens relationships and celebrates diversity. As a School that values inclusion, we honour the achievements of First Nations athletes across the country and proudly stand alongside those who wear our Westminster colours.

KickStart for Kids Casuals Day
To support KickStart for Kids, Friday 6 June will be a Casuals Day. Students across the entire School are encouraged to wear casual clothes while still ensuring they are dressed appropriately to take part in their normal lessons throughout the day. Gold coin donations can be made on the day or via the Qkr! App.
Guidelines for Casual Days at Westminster
While students are not required to wear School uniform on Casual Days, it remains a normal School Day in all other respects. Accordingly, the way students present themselves should still reflect the values of Westminster. Clothing must be neat and comfortable, with coverage equivalent to that provided by the School uniform.
To support consistency and clarity, the following guidelines apply:
- Footwear must be safe and appropriate for School activities. Styles such as thongs, Crocs, Birkenstocks and Ugg boots are not permitted
- Jewellery must not be visible
- Hair must comply with normal School regulations
- Clothing messages and logos must be appropriate. Any offensive or unsuitable content may result in disciplinary action
These guidelines are designed to ensure that all students feel comfortable, respected and safe, while still enjoying the spirit of a Casual Day.
Westminster appreciates the support of families in upholding these expectations.
