How do I include Westminster School Foundation in my will?

Leaving a gift in your Will is often referred to as a bequest. There are a few simple ways to remember the School in your will:

A lump Sum: you nominate a specific amount you would like to leave.

A percentage of your estate: you can nominate a percentage of your total estate to be paid to a beneficiary.

Personal property/real estate/shares: you can leave a gift of personal property, real estate or shares.

The residual balance of your estate: the amount of your estate remaining after all expenses and payments to other beneficiaries have been made.

If you don’t have a Will, then the first thing you should do is seek legal advice about creating one. The Public Trustee in your State or Territory can provide advice on making a Will and can help you find a solicitor.

What wording do I use in my bequest?

The School can help you plan a bequest that best fits your wishes. When considering Westminster School in your Will, it is recommended that you seek independent legal advice to ensure it conforms to State laws. Westminster School ABN 95 853 350 232 is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).

Information for solicitors - suggested wording for leaving a bequest:

Unrestricted bequest

I give [the sum of $.........../or………….%/residue of my estate/personal property/real estate/shares] to Westminster School Foundation Incorporated to be applied for the general purpose of Westminster School (ABN 99 153 945 403), Alison Avenue, Marion, South Australia 5043 and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer of the School shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustee.

Bequest for a specific purpose

I give the [the sum of $.........../or………….%/residue of my estate/personal property/real estate/shares] to Westminster School Foundation Incorporated, to be applied to ………………………..at Westminster School (ABN 99 153 945 403), Alison Avenue, Marion, South Australia 5043 and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer of the School shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustee. If the specified purpose is no longer valid at the time of my death, then the bequest may be used for a general purpose the Foundation determines most closely aligns with the stated purpose.

If you would like to add a beneficiary to an already existing will you may wish to use a Codicil. For more information on adding a Codicil to your Will please download our Codicil FAQ.

What can I support?

Your generous support will ensure that generations of students, teaching staff and students will benefit from enduring investments in:

  • New and existing facilities to deliver educational programs (Building Fund)
  • Student support through Scholarships and Awards (Education Fund)
  • Resources to support our state-of-the-art teaching and learning (Library Fund)

How will my gift be managed?

Your gift will be managed and will be used according to your wishes. The responsibility for monitoring the Fund lies with the Executive Officer of the Foundation, the Foundation Board and the Investment Committee. Performance reports are provided monthly by fund managers and reports are provided to at each Foundation Board meeting to enable timely monitoring to occur.

Funds in the Endowment:

  • Are invested by the School
  • Contribute a percentage of the interest earned annually to support the cause the gift was left in aid of
  • Remain in perpetuity as the remainder of the interest is reinvested to ensure capital growth.

In this way your gift will continue into the future to support generations of students. All gifts go directly to the cause which the gift has been left to.

How will my gift be acknowledged through the Arthur Kelly Society?

By leaving a gift in your Will, we would be honoured to welcome you into the Arthur Kelly Society – a special group of like-minded people who, like you, share a vision of Westminster’s future.

Perhaps you would like to visit the School to talk to someone about how the School’s aspirations and values align with yours. We would love the opportunity to talk to you about your wishes when making a gift to Westminster. This can help the Foundation plan for the future and ensure they can fulfil your wishes when your gift is received.

Of course, we also respect your privacy. If you do not wish to be acknowledged publicly for your generosity, we completely understand. We would, however, still like to hear from you to enable us to include your gift in our future planning.
