Welcome to Winter Intercol 2026!
Westminster is delighted to once again come together with Pembroke for Intercol 2026, with Pembroke hosting this year’s carnival.
Intercol is a much-valued tradition in the life of our School, bringing our communities together through competition, camaraderie and some healthy rivalry!
Across a number of days, our students will represent Westminster across a wide range of individual and team pursuits, demonstrating determination, teamwork and of course, the Dragon spirit.
We are immensely proud of every Westminster student who steps forward to compete and I encourage our community to show their support and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere that makes Intercol such a special occasion.
We extend our sincere thanks to the coaches, staff, umpires and officials from both Schools whose time, expertise and encouragement make Intercol possible.

Intercol Scoring Explained
Background
Throughout the regular season, the focus for most of our teams is on providing every student with the opportunity to participate, contribute and have a positive experience in their sport. While we always want our teams to be competitive, this is generally not at the expense of providing opportunities for students.
For our Open and First teams, there is naturally a greater emphasis on team performance and results throughout the season.
During Intercol, this competitive focus extends across all teams because every result contributes to the overall Winter Intercol result.
This is one of the things that makes Intercol so special. Every game matters, from our youngest teams in the Prep School through to our First teams.
Where possible, coaches will continue to provide opportunities for all students. However, particularly in close games, team selection and playing time may place a greater emphasis on achieving the best possible result for the team and ultimately for Westminster.
How does the Intercol scoring work?
There are two main ways points are awarded towards the overall Winter Intercol result.
1. First team Shields and Trophies
Each designated First team contest is worth 2 points towards the overall Intercol score.
In 2026 these are:
- Senior Chess
- Girls Premier League Soccer
- Boys Senior A Soccer
- Premier League Netball
- Boys Open A Basketball
- Girls First XVI Football
- Boys First XVIII Football
- Girls Senior Badminton
For example, if Westminster wins the Girls First XI Soccer match, Westminster receives 2 points towards the overall Winter Intercol score.
2. Overall sport results
Another 2 points are available for the School that wins the majority of matches within each sport.
For example:
Football: There are 10 matches across Senior and Prep Football (girls and boys combined). The School that wins the majority of those matches will receive the 2 points for Football.
Netball: There are 21 matches across Senior and Prep Netball. The School that wins at least 11 matches will receive the 2 points for Netball.
Importantly, as we continue to embrace our one school approach to Intercol, for the first time in 2026 our Prep School results will also contribute to determining the overall winner of each sport.
Put simply, every game matters during Intercol. A Prep School result can be just as important to winning the overall points for a sport as a Senior School result. Every team has an important role to play in helping Westminster compete for the Winter Intercol Cup.
