Everything You Need to Know Before Hitting the Water

Starting swimming lessons is an exciting milestone—for both you and your child! Whether you're bringing your baby to the pool for the very first time or your preschooler is taking their first independent strokes, we want you to feel confident and prepared.

This guide will help you get the most out of that very first visit.

Infants (6 months – 3 years)

Swimming with your baby is a beautiful bonding experience and an excellent foundation for lifelong water confidence.

Swim Nappy Essentials

All babies and toddlers who are not yet toilet trained must wear a swim nappy at every lesson—no exceptions.

We recommend:

  • Disposable swim nappies for convenience
  • Reusable swim nappies for a more eco-friendly and cost-effective option

We sell both on-site! You can even pre-purchase via our app and we’ll have your order ready for you on your first day.

Preschoolers & School-Aged Children (3 – 6 years)

At this age, children are now attending lessons independently. Here are a few key things to consider:

Toileting

Make sure your child uses the toilet before the lesson begins to avoid interruptions. If your child is newly toilet trained, we recommend the added reassurance of a reusable swim nappy just in case.

Goggles

A good pair of goggles can make all the difference when it comes to confidence in the water.

We recommend Zoggs goggles because:

  • Designed for all ages and skill levels – From first splashes to competitive swimmers, Zoggs has goggles and swimwear to suit every stage.
  • Child-specific designs – Their junior goggles are built to fit smaller faces comfortably and securely, making swimming more enjoyable for kids.
  • Innovative goggle technology – Features like anti-fog, UV protection, and easy-adjust straps support both comfort and safety.
  • Trusted for quality and durability – Zoggs products are made with long-lasting materials to withstand regular pool use.
  • Australian-founded brand – Created in Sydney in 1992, Zoggs understands Aussie swim culture and the demands of local aquatic environments.
  • Sustainability focused – Their EcoLast+™ swimwear range is made from recycled plastic waste, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility.
  • Backed by decades of expertise – With over 30 years in the industry, Zoggs is a recognised and reliable name in swimwear and accessories.

Zoggs goggles are available for purchase on-site. Pre-purchase in the app and we’ll have them ready for collection when you arrive.

Keeping Warm After the Lesson

Little bodies cool down quickly, especially in the winter months. Make the post-lesson transition easier by bringing:

  • Ugg boots or warm shoes
  • A beanie
  • A dressing gown or robe
  • A hooded towel – a fantastic investment for quick drying and keeping cosy

Snacks & Hydration

No food is allowed on pool deck—but we highly recommend packing a snack for the car! Swimming makes little tummies hungry. We also have a healthy snack vending machine on site.

Bring a water bottle for your child and one for yourself—hydration is important for everyone, especially during summer.

Track Their Progress with the Star Chart

Within our app, you’ll find our interactive star chart—a fun, visual way to see your swimmer’s progress and celebrate new skills. It’s a great motivator for young swimmers and a simple way for parents to stay connected to the learning journey.
