At this time of year, we would normally be celebrating Old Scholars’ Week, commencing with the Old Scholars’ Day on Friday 31 July (as the last Friday in July). Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we have had to cancel our annual celebrations. Working with the School, the only event that we are holding is the Old Scholars’ Day Assembly. We are delighted that our Old Scholar Guest Speaker is Prof Daniel Thomas (’91) from Adelaide University/SAHMRI but we are having to treat things differently so that our gathering remains within the allowable limits. Our plan is to have three Senior School year levels in the Murray Centre for the Assembly and the remaining three year levels watching the Assembly streamed to their classrooms. A very different approach to our usual event but we are thankful that we can still recognise the importance of Old Scholars within our large Westminster community.
While we have not set any new reunion dates for the years that would normally be celebrating a special anniversary (1, 5, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 years) in 2020, you are not forgotten and we are hopeful that we will be able to do something before the year is out even if we have to think more laterally about what we can do.
Thank you for your understanding.
Past Staff member Fred Johnson passed away 21 July 2020, one day shy of his 93rd birthday. Fred was the School’s Bursar from 1969 to 1990. Beyond these years, he frequently returned to events at the School, even as recent as last year. Our thoughts and prayers are with Fred’s family at this time.
