Coronavirus – Explaining it to our children

By now, many of you will have had conversations with your children about COVID-19 and have no doubt done a great job of explaining it and reassuring them. If you would like an additional resource, the video below could be of use. Kirrilie Smout is a local child and adolescent psychologist who has described the video she has produced in the following way:

If you are working with children aged 4 to 11 at the moment, this five minute video might be useful to help them learn:

• What the coronavirus is and how it spreads
• What they can do to help
• What the world is doing to manage the problem
• How they can manage their worries about it

It is a relatively positive video - and provides an optimistic way of looking at the current crisis, and so will be suitable for most children. However, please watch it first before showing it to a child, so you can ensure it is right for them and their wellbeing right now.
