Intercol

Last week saw the annual Winter Intercol competition against Pembroke School begin on Friday afternoon with the Girls’ Football and Soccer and end on Saturday afternoon with the 1st XVIII Football. I would like to congratulate all students who participated in the various matches and represented Westminster in a very positive manner. From what I experienced, the matches were played with competitive spirit but with also with a respect for the opposition players. There were several close wins.

I was also proud of the way our students welcomed and hosted the Pembroke students at Westminster. I congratulate the students for the way they supported their peers in such an enthusiastic and respectful manner. To see so many people at Westminster during the competition certainly makes this competition between the two schools a highlight of the year.

Special mention to the winning senior teams either retaining or winning their respective trophy – these teams were Girls’ Football, Boy’s Football, Netball and Boys’ Basketball.

Year 12 Students

Year 12 students have only seven school weeks left before they begin to prepare for exams or complete final external assessment tasks. This is the time that they can experience increased levels of stress as they work towards completing major assignments many of which are due before the end of this term. While there may be times that late nights are required to complete their work, this should not become the norm. It is my experience that students who do not get adequate sleep often begin to feel run down and seem to suffer from any virus that is going around.

I would encourage students to ensure they plan their lives to allow adequate sleep so the body can recharge itself and to minimise days off from school during these past few weeks. Discussing their concerns with teachers can also be a very worthwhile experience and save them time.

This is the time where perseverance and discipline to prioritise their time between their study and other activities is important and will provide benefits in the long run.

Summer Uniform

Due to the Co-curricular and House photographs being rescheduled to Week 8, students will be required to continue to wear Winter uniform until Friday 10 September. Summer uniform can be worn from Monday 13 September. I ask parents and students to check that they have all the correct items required.
