Head of Drama - Edition 15 - 2019

Drama continues to provide great opportunities for our students to work to a high standard in performance, with rehearsals for the Year 8 to 10 Junior Play, The Alchemist - A Soul’s Journey, underway. An adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s best seller, The Alchemist, the play takes us on a journey of self-discovery which is both challenging and delightful in its outcome. The cast will be challenged by Canadian acrobat, acrobatics instructor and motivational speaker, Dan Aubin, as well as the irrepressible Craig McArdle, an actor and director with Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe accolades. Stage combat will be choreographed by Sifu Nino Pilla, who is currently working with the lead actors on Mortal Kombat which is being shot in and around Adelaide, capably assisted by Sifu Ruth Fallon. We are also lucky to have some guests, Preparatory School parents Jo Stone and Paulo Castro, who, fortunately for us, are renowned creators of fine theatre. The cast of sixty will also benefit from the experience and support of highly skilled Old Scholars who have retained their passion for theatre, and a very capable Year 11 Production Team. The Alchemist - A Soul’s Journey opens on Wednesday 27 November in the Michael Murray Centre. The cast, crew and I very much look forward to staging this wonderful show for the Westminster School Community.
