Early Learning to Year 12
Reiley Kohler (Year 8 Jeffries) travelled to Melbourne recently to attend the Victorian Dance Festival (VDF). Reiley was auditioned by the Joffrey Ballet Company, a high profile company from America, and was fortunate to receive one of the four ballet tuition scholarships. 32 children participated in the audition. Reiley won a 100% funded two week tuition Scholarship to attend the 2019 Summer Ballet Intensive program in New York City. The summer intensive program is in June/July this year. We are very proud of Riley and this wonderful achievement.
Zara West (Year 10 Woollacott) has received the role of Katie Nanna in the upcoming production of Shane Davidson’s Mary Poppins. We congratulate Zara and wish her well.
The 2019 USA Dance Tour departs on Wednesday 26 June for 19 memorable days abroad, totally immersed in the world of Dance. Commencing with dance study and performances in New York, the tour group of 20 dancers and three staff will travel to Massachusetts to attend the 2019 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. This Festival is recognised as the most prestigious Dance Festival in the world, with exclusive attendance by only the world’s best Dance companies.
During Week 11 last term the Year 10 dancers attended a morning workshop with members of the renown Australian Dance Theatre. The excursion was held at the ADT studios in Norwood. Students viewed a company class and then participated in a repertoire master class learning movement from the ADT work, 'The Beginning of Nature'. Artistic Director, Garry Stewart welcomed us and gave a history of the company. There was also a Q&A session at the end of the morning which allowed our dancers to ask questions and learn what it is like to be a fulltime professional dancer. An eventful and memorable experience was had by all.
On Thursday 6 June 6 (Week 6), we will be holding our annual ‘Dance Allsorts’ production in the Michael Murray Centre at 7.30 pm.
This performance celebrates the learning by students from Years 8 to 12 who have been studying dance as a curriculum subject this semester. With a focus on contemporary dance, this performance will display a multitude of styles, moods and themes.
We hope to see you there. Entry is by Gold Coin Donation.
