Early Learning to Year 12
Dance is well underway in both Curriculum and Co-curricular Dance. Dance students from Year 7 to 12 are enjoying Dance in the curriculum working on technique, composition, performance work, improvisation and analysis. Next week these fortunate students will attend a performance of Impermanence by the Sydney Dance Company as part of the Adelaide Festival of Arts events.
Co-curricular students are enjoying a wonderful range of classes before and after school in genres such as Creative Dance, Ballet, Acrobatics, Indigenous and Commercial Dance. Our Collective Dancers are heavily involved preparing for our upcoming school musical, School of Rock, which will be held in the Michael Murray Centre in Week 10.
Zoe Smith, our 2020 Westminster School Dux recipient, received a SACE merit for Dance. We congratulate Zoe on this wonderful result in a particularly challenging year.
2020 Westminster school graduates Rhianna Barney and Zoe Smith successfully auditioned for Adelaide’s AC Arts Dance course toward the end of last year (AC Arts is our states tertiary dance training institute in Light square), and the girls began their rigorous training last month to become professional dancers. We commend Rhianna and Zoe on this wonderful achievement and we will follow their career paths with interest.
Izaak Westhead (pictured), who attended Westminster School and received an A+ for his SACE Stage 2 Dance studies whilst in Year 10, left us in 2016 to pursue his dance training at the prestigious Australian Ballet School in Melbourne. Izaak has now gained a dance contract and the title of 2021 Young Artist with the Western Australian Ballet. We are incredibly proud of Izaak’s achievements and wish him well in his professional dance career. You can read more about Izaak on the Australian Ballet School facebook page or the West Australian Ballet School website.
Joe Meldrum ('12), a graduate from WAAPA (The Western Australian Academy for Performing Arts), is achieving great success in his career, performing in musical theatre productions around Australia. Joe has returned to Adelaide for a short period and will be teaching our Monday night Senior Commercial class. We welcome Joe home and feel grateful he has given his time to work with our dance students.
