Dance Captain 2020

Hello my name is Freya Young and I am the Dance Captain for 2020. I began dancing at the age of two and have loved it ever since. I am heavily involved in the Westminster Dance programs, both curricular and co-curricular. I have two early mornings a week consisting of classical coaching (which includes pointe work, dancing on the tips of our toes!) and the Dance Collective, which is like a small Dance Company. I have also been a dance student at That’s Dancing, a dance studio based in Warradale, since 2006. I am now also involved in teaching the younger students. I completed my Stage 2 Dance in Year 11 and am I studying Certificate III in Dance this year, the second cohort to undertake this course at Westminster School. My favourite styles of dance are Jazz and Lyrical and I also compete in Hip hop, Contemporary and Tap competitions. I have performed in dance competitions around Adelaide and have also been interstate for national events. I was one the 20 students who participated last year in the fourth biennial USA Dance Tour. I am excited to be the Captain of Dance for 2020 and looking forward to the year ahead.

Congratulations

We wish to congratulate the Westminster Dance students who have secured a place in the 2020 Australian Dance Theatre Youth Ensemble. After a rigorous audition process, Lucy Ashworth (Year 12 Woollacott), Rhianna Barney (Year 12 Clark), Gabe Lowe (Year 11 Fricker) and Rommy Snoad (Year 10 Kelly) each won positions.

From the ADT website, the ensemble is described as follows, "The Australian Dance Theatre Youth Ensemble was established in 2013 to expose an elite group of young dancers to the company’s repertoire and training methodology and to foster the next generation of professional dancers. The ensemble is a state-wide prestigious ensemble that will have the dancers working with local choreographers and gaining further performance opportunities." This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the dance ability of these fine students.

Co-Curricular Dance - Up and Running for 2020!

The rich and varied co-curricular dance program beautifully coordinated by Miss Sophie Wilson is ‘up and running’. Classes commenced last week with students enjoying time with their friends before and after school whilst participating in Creative, Commercial, Ballet, Acro, Aerial silks and Jazz classes. We will celebrate their achievements in this program at the end of the year with our annual ‘Let’s Dance’ Co-curricular Production.
