Early Learning to Year 12
The Westminster Curricular Dance program is rich in content relating to dance performance, technique and choreography, however students also learn what is involved in the creation of a large scale production in a vast theatre such as our own Michael Murray Centre for the Performing Arts. Under the guidance of Miss Wilson, our Year 9 Dance students took a backstage, behind the scenes look this term at how music, lighting and AV is produced in our MMC to create an exciting theatrical experience for our audiences. Viewing the stage from the catwalk up high above the auditorium and seeing the control room, lighting desk and lighting rig, where all the magic happens, was a thrilling experience for all.
Our Year 12, Certificate III in Dance students, were also involved in learning backstage duties and responsibilities by generously altering costumes for our recent ‘Let’s Dance’ Co-curricular Dance performance. This activity was part of their 2020 course work.
Production preparations are a big part of dance and this broad learning gives students deep insight into the world of theatre beyond the dance studio.
