Early Learning to Year 12

From the Chaplain - Edition 6 - 2020

Early every Wednesday morning I join the Year 12 Leadership group for their weekly meeting. They are an exceptional bunch. Last week's gathering occurred amidst continuing Coronavirus restrictions which, to date, still limit their possible activities and planning. The agenda, circulated the evening before included, “Things have changed - how can we keep things rolling being online at home without interaction?”.

So, here were our Senior students taking a positive approach and looking at what they could maintain. And they came up with the answer: “Chapel. We could still do Chapel. We could stream it online”. And they immediately began exchanging ideas around the notion of what has been good to come out of the changes necessitated by limiting the spread of this virus? What have we been grateful for?

This was a wonderful example of the embrace of School Values of this group of leaders. It might be easy to think that Westminster students attend Chapel under sufferance; as an obligation of attending a faith-based Uniting Church school. That they even rely on the coercion of the Chaplain to be ‘good’ in this respect. No. This was the student leaders’ initiative; their idea. A clear indication that they value this aspect of their overall learning experience.

Please enjoy their first virtual Chapel experience below.
