Early Learning to Year 12

From the Boarding Houses - Edition 2 - 2019

It has been an exciting start to the year in Westminster Boarding with more than thirty new Boarders joining our community. It has been extremely rewarding to see our more experienced Boarders welcome their new peers with enthusiasm and empathy. We are very grateful for the supportive and welcoming environment we have in our Boarding House and this has certainly been on display for the beginning for 2019.

Highlights of the year so far have included:

  • Our annual “closed weekend” where our Boarders enjoy Brighton beach and a range of orientation activities to develop relationships for the year ahead.
  • A well-attended BPA meeting followed by dinner with our Principal, Simon Shepherd at Highmoor.
  • The positive attitude our Boarders have adopted in their approach to their studies.
  • Involvement in fun activities including stand up paddle boarding, quiz nights, WAFL attendance, Fringe events and the annual Pembroke Pool Party.
  • High participation rate in the schools co-curricular program.
  • Our first optional exeat weekend, initiated with the hope of providing more flexibility for our Boarding families.

With the Westminster Swimming Carnival and Sports Day (including the famous Boarders' Dance!) still to come this term, it is sure to be a busy and enjoyable time for our Boarders. All parents are very welcome to attend such school events, and history tells us that Sports Day in particular is a great day for Boarder parents to meet other parents in our community.

Parents who were with us last year may recall we initiated a “hot spot drop” on some of our exeat weekends. This was well received by our families and it is our intention to continue the service this year. We will be providing transport for Boarders to different locations on each of our compulsory exeats. This will commence with a Westminster vehicle providing transport for up to seven students on the exeat weekend commencing on the Saturday 9 March. More details will follow soon.

We are looking forward to a rewarding and enjoyable term at Westminster Boarding and will enjoy sharing our experiences and successes with our community.
