Early Learning to Year 12

Friends of Westminster - Edition 9 - 2020

Friends of Westminster, like all other volunteer groups across the community, placed itself into hibernation during the peak of COVID-19. As we begin to emerge from the other side we are looking forward to being able to meet again and consider what might be ahead of us in the coming year. Of course, 2021 will be a big one as we will be participating in a number of celebrations to mark the School’s 60th anniversary.

The Friends of Westminster AGM

Our first post-COVID-19 meeting will be our AGM to be held on Monday 10 August at 7.00 pm in Friends of Westminster House (enter through Gate 1 and follow the rail line road to the end). We welcome members of the School community to attend and hope to be able to provide some refreshments (within any prevailing restrictions). Following our AGM, we will run a regular meeting. Positions to be ideally filled: Vice President and Secretary – if you would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to contact me or Communications Manager Peter Trenorden (’77), E: ptrenorden@westminster.sa.edu.au or T: 08 8276 0234.

The Diamond Jubilee Fun Fair (2021)

Following the departure of our superstar convenors Sarah and Tod McHugh, we are looking to re-establish our Diamond Jubilee Fun Fair Committee for 2021. We have not yet confirmed our Fun Fair date for next year but expect it will be in March/April, fitting in with Easter and School holidays.

We have a volunteer already for the role of Fun Fair Convenor, Shane Pope. A past Fun Fair Convenor, Shane comes with a lot of experience and probably needs little introduction to those who have been involved with the Fun Fair in the past 10 years – thank you Shane!

To assist Shane, we are now looking for:

1) Co-convenor to be Shane’s offsider in the overall management of the Fun Fair, take on the liaison with FoW Exec and the Development Office, and manage the volunteer register

2) Food and Drinks Stall Convenor

3) Rides/Amusements Convenor

All convenor positions will be provided with a clear work plan to follow with checkpoints for feedback to the Fun Fair Convenor and FoW Exec. These positions can also be co-shared if both parties are in agreeance. If you are interested, please email the Fun Fair team, E: F@westminster.sa.edu.au and we’ll do our best to answer any queries you might have.

Entertainment Book 2020/21

The Entertainment Book is going ahead this year but there will be no printed book. It will only be available as an app, which is easy to use and can be shared amongst your family. If you ordered a book last year, you should have received a message direct from Entertainment Book inviting you to renew. This is a fundraiser too so for every book purchased the School receives a cash benefit. If you want to find out more, subscribe or renew you can visit: https://www.entertainment.com.au/subscription. If you haven’t done so already, you just have to make sure you link your subscription to Westminster School. Renewals are coming through so thank you to those of you who are and will be choosing to support this fundraiser.

Thank you all and we look forward to again being able to contribute in a meaningful way to the School and community.
